Autumn Produce Report
Keep it Fresh this Autumn
Autumn new season fruit and veg is being delivered daily by our local growers and food producers. Autumn is a time to Celebrate with our loved ones and to also celebrate how lucky we are to live in this food bowl and be able to access it here under one roof.
The local pick of the week is APPLES, with our Nannup orchards delivering 3 times a week, you can be sure the various varieties we have are super fresh, crisp and delicious. So get crunching into an apple this weekend.
Our Nannup PEARS and WA FIGS are excellent quality and are perfect Autumn fruits to include in your grazing platter this weekend, or a salad, like our Fig, Pear and Goats Cheese Salad. This is a salad that will be gone in seconds at this weekend’s lunch plans.
There are excellent quality vegetables in store now, which are perfect for your big family roast dinners or perfect for the barbecue.
Char-grilled ZUCHINI and EGGPLANT are a delicious option for creating a simple meal with bold flavours! Simply slice lengthways, and place onto a hot grill pan or barbecue with a generous amount of olive oil and you’ve got a winner every time. Add a spoon of Margaret River Greek yoghurt and a sprinkle of Harrissa or Ras el Hanouf spice mix before serving, for a little punch.
SWEET POTATO, is a favourite veg that can hold its own as the star of the show, or makes the perfect side dish for any meal. One of our favourite combinations for a dish that will impress your guests this weekend is our Roast Sweet Potato and Apple Salad, which perfectly balances velvety roasted sweet potato with the delicate crunch of new season Apples!
And don’t forget to pick up some MUSHROOMS this week, the perfect addition to a breakfast cook-up! Not a veg, but also very local and delicious for breakfast – Try our WA bacon from Princi or Eurostyle butchers, using WA pork and traditional processes, this is bacon you can eat stress free, without the nasty additives.
In greens this month you can expect to find ASPARAGUS, GREEN BEANS, SNOW PEAS and BROCCOLINI. Loaded with antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals, make sure you include one or a mixture of these on the table, throw them in a pan of boiling water for 2 minutes, drain and serve with a drizzle of olive oil or a dobof local Capel butter.
Our fruit and veg team will be more than happy to help you if you are unsure of any produce in store. We encourage you to get talking and ask questions about what’s in season! Not only does shopping locally in season mean you’re saving money, but you can be sure you’re eating the best quality produce available and supporting our West Australian growers.
